United Nations organizes International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking every year on 26 June since 1988. Every year this event is celebrated worldwide with a new theme.
Under the slogan #ListenFirst a new Public Service Announcement on science-based drug prevention has been launched, targeting parents, teachers, policy makers, health worker and prevention workers. It aims to raise awareness around listening to children and youth as the first step to help them grow healthy and safe.

For this year's International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon gave this message:
We hope this year the event will be more successful than ever. Problem of drugs is faced in almost every part of the world now, there are several organizations working against Drug Abuse, supporting UN.
In India, recently a movie named Udta Punjab was released which throws light on the present situation of Punjab [North Indian State], drugs is the biggest problem that Punjab is facing in present time. Earlier, the worlds largest spiritual organization DSS tried to do the same with MSG Movie series and succeeded too. Efforts like these will surely help to overcome this problem worldwide in short span of time.
